A Sandwich Lover’s Paradise
There is one restaurant that staple of the dining scenes in both Lawrence, KS and Columbia, MO. A place with soups and sandwiches so delicious that people would actually drive from out of town just for a meal.  This place has now come to Kansas City and immediately taken its rightful spot amongst the best Sammy places in town.  Open for about 2 months now in the old Hannibal’s Waldo Bar location at 74th and Wornall, Quinton’s is serving up their legendary Texas toast sandwiches, homemade soups, and tasty wraps again in the KC metro area.  Years ago some of you may remember Quinton’s out in Johnson County at College and Quivira near Johnson County Community College.  That version has been replaced by its cousin Gert’s Grille.  Gert’s serves up a very similar menu and does a very respectable job of representing the Quinton’s family.
Back to the star of the show.  Since opening May 14, 2011 I’ve had a chance to get in there several times and each visit I’m reminded of exactly what makes this place so wonderful.  The sandwiches range from wonderful combinations of classic pairings to more unusual and exciting twists that leave you wanting more.  So if you haven’t had a chance to get in and visit the newest edition to the Quinton’s family, then I encourage you to do so soon.
What we Liked: The menu offers any sandwich lover great variety and absolutely something for everyone.  Try the Beef & Brie.  The Roast Beef and imported Brie along with the alfalfa sprouts and spicy Russian mustard meld together to make one of our favorites.
What we Didn’t:  The soups are very good.  Homemade daily and served in a bread bowl, they really hit the spot.  The issue we have is their soups are more fitting for cold weather than summertime enjoyment.  We’d like to see a more seasonal soup menu with some offerings a little lighter for the hot Midwestern summers.  Also it seems from time to time the bread for the bread bowl is just a little on the stale side.  Personally I’d like to see a little bit fresher bread for my soups.
CowTown’s Tip:  Don’t overlook the wraps. Their traditional sandwiches feature grilled Texas Toast, but the wraps are still mighty tasty too.  The bar side of things is open till 3 and gets hopping  late night, so stop on by and don’t be surprised if some of your friends beat you too it.
