As the weather continues warming up, we continue to shift away from the hearty dishes of winter and early spring toward the lighter, crisper flavors of summer.  One of the best things about summer is the availability of amazing local fruits and vegetables.  While you can get strawberries year-round at the grocery store, nothing beats a basket of strawberries from your local farmers market.  Sometimes a simple fruit salad can be one of life’s wonderful pleasures.  This recipe is just a simple fruit salad with a honey yogurt dressing that enhances the fruit without becoming the only thing you taste.

Of course this recipe calls for specific fruits, but I would encourage you to grab whatever looks fresh and good to you! If watermelon is in season, or you find good looking kiwis, then add them in and enjoy.

Fruit Salad

  • 1 sliced banana
  • 1/2 orange, juiced
  • 1/2 orange, segmented and sliced in half
  • 1 sliced banana
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh raspberries
  • 1 1/2 cups fresh blueberries
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced in half
  • 1 large bunch of seedless grapes, cut in half

Yogurt Dressing

  • 2 cups plain yogurt (Low Fat or Fat Free yogurt can be substituted)
  • 2 tablespoons good honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • Seeds scraped from 1/2 vanilla bean, optional


In small mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, honey, vanilla extract, and vanilla bean seeds and set aside. Into a separate bowl goes the orange juice and banana slices.  Fold in the berries and grapes and gently mix the fruit mixture together. Spoon the yogurt dressing into the bowl containing the fruit and gently fold together.  Serve immediately and enjoy!
